OYBL Instructional Curriculum

The OYBL developed an extensive instructional and evaluation curriculum (download options below) for all grade levels during the 2003-2004 season. Coaches are provided with curriculum matrices that described desired skills and abilities in each of six areas: shooting, pivoting, dribbling, layups, offense awareness and rebounding. The matrix is designed to help coaches assess a player's existing skills while providing additional information that should serve to guide their players' improvement on a continuous and linear progression toward improving levels of proficiency. Each matrix worksheet also provides detailed instructions/descriptions of drills coaches should use in practice to help players master the targeted skill(s).

The skill matrices linked below are for coach/parent observation and use. We encourage parents to work with their children in each of these areas. From time to time, as updates become available, including other documents related to time management and practice tips, we will post them here, so check back often. We also encourage parents and players to investigate the basketball websites we have posted to our links page. Each offers varying levels of insight into the game, rules of play, coaching philosophy and skill development.
